Just about anywhere you look today, you will see examples of Information Technology (IT) revolutionizing products. “Once composed solely of mechanical and electrical parts, products have become complex systems that combine hardware, sensors, data storage, microprocessors, software, and connectivity in myriad ways,” notes a recent article in Harvard Business Review.
The Internet of Things (IoT) has exciting implications for home heating and air conditioning. And this month, Standard Heating is offering a special promotion on the Honeywell FocusPRO Wi-Fi Programmable Thermostat. Using Honeywell’s app for phones, tablets, or a computer login, you can connect with the web portal, allowing for remote access to the Wi-Fi thermostat. For a limited time, Standard Heating is including this thermostat with the installation of a new heating and cooling system.
Why should you care? When a Total Connect Comfort account has been activated and registered to a Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat, you gain the ability to control your heating and cooling system settings, temperature, and other thermostat features from your computer, smartphone, or tablet. By changing your thermostat settings to match your schedule throughout the day, you can easily regulate higher or lower temperatures during peak and off-peak times to save money on your energy bills. Benefits include remotely viewing and changing:
- The heating and cooling schedule (for thermostats that support this feature)
- Heating and cooling system settings
- The indoor temperature
- Humidifier and dehumidifier (when used with an outdoor sensor)
Other benefits include:
- Accessing multiple smart thermostats
- Viewing thermostat alerts such as high or low temperature
- Automatically upgrading to new features when they become available
What happens if you lose power? In the case of a power outage, your thermostat stores its program schedule, user setup, and customizations in permanent memory. When power is restored your thermostat will start operating automatically.
Currently, iPhones, iPads, Android phones, and Android tablets are the mobile devices that support Honeywell’s Total Connect Comfort app. Visit the iTunes App Store or Android Market to download the Total Connect Comfort app for your device.
